Introducing our brand new location - Sheffield Service Centre!

26 March 2021

This spring, we will be opening our brand new Sheffield service centre!

The new location at 6b Aspen Court, Rotherham, will offer customers a variety of delivery options and van sizes in Sheffield and the surrounding areas.

Due to an increase in demand, we have decided to open a new site in Sheffield to serve our South Yorkshire customers. From this site we will be able to support neighbouring Nottingham and Leeds Service Centres as well as the surrounding areas of  Barnsley, Doncaster, Rotherham, Scunthorpe, Worksop and Chesterfield.

The Sheffield team are a blend of new and existing colleagues. Richard Firth will be managing the new site in Rotherham. With years of experience leading our Leeds team, Richard has proven he is the perfect person for the job.

The sales contact for our new site is Joe Glave.  Joe will be able to assist with all business and delivery related enquiries. Alternatively, customers can always book via our online booking service, which we’ve made quick and easy to get a quote, book a courier or track your delivery.

We took the time to speak with Richard to get to know him and learn about his new role as Service Centre Manger at the Sheffield site!

What are you most looking forward to when opening the Sheffield site?

"When I was the Service Centre Manager at Leeds, South Yorkshire always was an area which I thought would benefit from having its own Service Centre. To be here now and to be the Service Centre Manager, the fact that it’s a new site, with a brand-new team with a fantastic base in which to grow and develop is exciting. To be able to see the growth not only in terms of the Service Centres commercials, but also to see the team grow and develop their skills and knowledge is something that I am looking forward to immensely."

Did you always know what you wanted to do in your career? How did you get into the role of Service Centre Manager?

"Growing up I didn’t really give much thought to specifically what I wanted to do. I can recall thinking that being an airline pilot would be a cool thing to do, but I never pursued that as I didn’t think I was clever enough.

My hero was my Dad and he was in business. He was a qualified Chartered Accountant but had led a Management buyout of a company. In school holidays I would go with him to work and sit in his chair thinking that one day I wanted to be just like him. Sadly, I lost my Dad when I was 17, which had an enormous effect on me. I lost my mentor and my best friend.

I started my logistics career with a role as Branch Manager. This path eventually lead me to CitySprint when I joined the team at Leeds."

What advice would you give to someone starting their career?

"To be patient and to look to want to learn as much as you can. The more you know, the better you will be able to add value to the company who you work for and in turn your own career aspirations will be able to be fulfilled. Be ambitious but be humble and always be prepared to listen to opinions of others."

If you could change one thing about the logistics industry, what would it be?

"We are lucky in working within an industry and a company that has continued to thrive despite the pandemic and in doing so is helping the country getting us back to normality. New technology has played its part and new innovations will further enhance our ability to serve the customer in the best possible way. In looking after the welfare of colleagues and hoping to make CitySprint the place to work within the logistics sector, these are the only changes that I would want to see."
