Annual charity football match

12 June 2019

Tuesday 4th June saw our annual charity football match enter its third year and the competitiveness of our commercial and operations teams peak new heights.

In 2017, the Commercial team won 3-2 and in 2018, the Operations team came back strong with a 6-1 defeat. 2019 was set to be the decider.

The match took place at Sutton United football ground, who kindly lent us the pitch for the evening in order to raise funds for this year’s chosen charity - Show Racism the Red Card.

Show Racism the Red Card are an anti-racism education charity providing educational workshops, training sessions and other useful resources with the aim of tackling racism in society.

As a national business, we had players and supporters come down from all over the country, including Manchester, Bristol, Warwick and London. Our CEO, Paul Gisbourne, and Group CEO, Patrick Gallagher, came down to take part and show their support too.

Kick off was at 19:15 and the game that followed displayed outstanding performances on both sides, however there was a clear discipline from Operations who ultimately won the game 6-2.

Paul Gisbourne commented,

“These nights show the passion we have for a sport that we love, the camaraderie between the CitySprint teams across the business and ultimately, the relationships we build with one another.”

In total we managed to raise £1,030 for Show Racism the Red Card which is our highest collection from these annual matches so far.

Ged Grebby, CEO of Show Racism the Red Card said,

“I am delighted that CitySprint has chosen Show Racism the Red Card as a charity for this event and the money they have raised to help our cause. It is through donations like these that we can continue to make a difference to the community we live in and the young people of the future.”
