National Apprenticeship Week… with Charlotte!

06 February 2024

With National Apprenticeship Week upon us and many wonderful apprentices in our midst, we wanted to put the spotlight on one of them and highlight the apprentice experience here at CitySprint.

Charlotte is our Operations Apprentice and she works in our Warwick service centre. After she completes her Business Administrative Apprenticeship, she will go into a full-time role as an Operations Controller. She has been with CitySprint for 16 months and is due to finish her apprenticeship next year. We sat down with Charlotte to get a better understanding of her role and what she loves about being an apprentice.

Why did you join CitySprint’s apprenticeship programme?

After studying Business at college and working for 3 years, I had a good understanding of how a retail business worked as I had put the theory into practice. I’ve worked in a range of areas: customer service, operations, display, as well as being a leader, mentoring and training new employees. I am always looking to develop and progress; I was ready to take that next step elsewhere, so I applied for an apprenticeship through CitySprint. I felt it would let me use all my experience and give me a new set of skills and appreciation of the logistics sector.

What is the best thing about being an apprentice?

The most gratifying aspect of my apprenticeship is the chance to learn while actively contributing to the job and simultaneously working towards an additional qualification. Within operations and logistics, I am still deepening my understanding and as I get more experience and responsibility. I work alongside an amazing, experienced team who are training me to have the best knowledge and to be a confident coordinator. Learning while on the job is a great way to improve your communication, teamwork, and multitasking skills.

Would you recommend applying for an apprenticeship?

Yes – it’s an amazing way to start your career, especially if you aren’t sure what you want to do initially. An apprenticeship lets you get practical experience as you learn and there are lots of separate roles you can take on. Hopefully, this will lead to a successful career in something you enjoy.

Finally, can you tell us a little about you outside of work?

Outside of work, I love seeing my friends and family. I love fashion and design, going on long dog walks and going to the gym. Also, I’m a big foodie and love going out to nice places to eat. I love to travel, and I’ve been fortunate enough to have visited an extensive list of countries. I can’t wait to travel more in the future.
