Courier driver Mike, a real-life hero

06 October 2022

Mike Clarke, a courier working with CitySprint, recently saved someone's life by performing CPR whilst out on deliveries for one of our customers.

While Mike was out for deliveries unloading his van, the customer came running out of the building to inform him that someone had collapsed. Mike went straight into the building to find the person lying on the kitchen floor with no heartbeat. Mike performed CPR (cardiopulmonary resuscitation) and managed to get his heart beating again until the ambulance could arrive and take over.

Mike is trained in CPR and has performed this procedure on four people. He is very keen to remind everyone how important learning the technique is. When done correctly, CPR maintains blood flow around the body, supplying oxygen to the brain for vital minutes until the emergency services arrive.

You can find a quick guide to giving CPR on the NHS website here.

Brighton Service Centre Manager, Lisa Clarke commented,

“I am pleased to say that when Mike left, the casualty had a strong heartbeat and was breathing by himself. We’ve since heard that this person has now been moved out of ICU and into cardiac care. He’s sitting up eating, talking and they are confident he will make a full recovery!”

Since then, this person had a stent fitted in his heart and is now back home resting but will make a full recovery from this incident thanks to Mike’s actions.
