Clinical research
The University of Leeds, in collaboration with Leeds Teaching Hospitals NHS Trust, were conducting a clinical research study, “Yorkshire Lung Screening Trial: Biomarkers Sub-Study”. The study investigates the potential of blood borne biomarkers to improve the efficacy of lung cancer screening and it runs alongside the Yorkshire Lung Screening Trial.
The study is funded by Yorkshire Cancer Research and is set up by several collaborators with further funding from commercial and academic institutions.
Flexible same day delivery
The patient sample collection was mainly conducted on mobile screening units, which were based in community-based car parks around the city of Leeds. The location changed monthly, with CitySprint providing same day collection and deliveries.
Patient samples were collected from the mobile unit and delivered to a local hospital where they were processed and stored. Vehicles required temperature-controlled containers for sample transportation with a temperature ranging from 2°C to 8°C.
